I am unable to add a payment method to my OpenAI Platform account in order to purchase API credits.
Every time I try to add a card, I receive billing address validation errors such as:
- “Your billing address requires more information”
- “You must specify a street address in your billing address”
I have already:
- Tried multiple credit cards issued by different UAE banks.
- Verified that international online payments are enabled.
- Entered my billing address exactly as registered with my bank.
- Tried different address formats and variations.
- Used different browsers and devices.
- Filled all required fields in both the Billing Preferences section and the payment form.
In the Billing Preferences section, I have already provided:
- Company name
- Billing email
- Primary business address
- Country
- City
- State/Emirate
- Street address
All information is saved successfully and appears correctly in my account settings.
Despite this, the payment form continues to reject the billing address and does not allow me to add any payment method. The error message does not indicate which specific field is missing or invalid.
Has anyone encountered this issue before, particularly with UAE-issued cards? Is there a specific address format required by OpenAI’s payment processor, or could there be an issue with billing address verification for UAE cards?
Hi and welcome to the community @Ken_96!
I’ll start with that, UAE is listed as a supported country for OpenAI API access, so that itself shouldn’t be an issue:
https://help.openai.com/en/articles/5347006-openai-api-supported-countries-and-territories
Now I just need clarification before guessing too much:
Are you trying to add a payment method under Billing → Payment methods or are you trying to complete the Billing → Preferences section for invoice/tax details?
I am asking, because in my own Platform billing page, the Payment methods form only asks for card number, expiration date and security code.
Thank you for your response.
I am trying to add a payment method under Billing → Payment Methods, not the Billing → Preferences section.
In my case, the Payment Method form asks for:
- Card number
- Expiration date
- Security code (CVV)
- Country/Region
- Address Line 1
- Address Line 2
What is confusing is that the form does not contain a dedicated Street Address field or a Postal Code field. However, after submitting the form, I receive errors such as:
- “Your billing address requires more information”
- “You must specify a street address in your billing address”
Because there is no separate Street Address field in the form, I am unsure how I am expected to provide additional street address information beyond what I have already entered in Address Line 1 and Address Line 2.
Thanks for clarifying.
In my opinion this should be looked by the Support, since it may be a payment-form/address-parsing issue.
I’d recommend opening a Support case by emailing them support@openai.com and including:
- screenshot of the Payment Method form fields shown
- screenshot of the exact validation error after submitting
- country/region selected
- card issuer country
- confirmation that this happens with multiple UAE-issued cards
I’d avoid posting private address/card details publicly as in here at the forum.
Sometimes someone from Support may reply in a thread and ask for the case ID if they need to follow up internally. I can’t promise that will happen, since I’m only another user here, but I just wanted to mention the usual routine and no private details will never be asked to share here.
Thanks for providing the additional details, and thank you @LarisaHaster for the guidance shared above.
Could you please create a support ticket if you haven't already done so? Once you've received a case ID, feel free to share it here and I'll take a look at the account and investigate further.
