hellou i have same problem!
I’m reporting a critical issue: the speaker icon for voice playback (Text-to-Speech) in ChatGPT has completely disappeared from my interface.

I’ve thoroughly tested the issue under multiple conditions:

  • Tried three different browsers: Brave, Chrome, and Firefox
  • Tested two separate OpenAI accounts
  • Cleared all browsing data, cache, cookies, and restarted PC several times
  • Switched VPN on and off – no change
  • Verified that YouTube and other audio sources work fine in all browsers
  • Voice test works in ChatGPT settings – I can hear the sample playback (e.g., Jupiter), so audio output is functioning
  • Tried both web version and the Windows desktop app – the speaker icon is missing in both
  • Interestingly, when using ChatGPT without being logged in, the icon is visible, but clicking it results in “can’t play sound”

I rely heavily on this feature due to impaired vision. The voice playback is not a convenience for me – it’s essential for accessing and processing information.

This is a serious accessibility issue, and I’ve exhausted all local troubleshooting. Please investigate and let me know:

  1. Is this part of an A/B test or rollout change?
  2. Is this a temporary bug or has the feature been deprecated?
  3. When can I expect restoration of the TTS playback button?

Thanks for your prompt attention.

Seems like they are testing something out, my button just appeared for like 1 hour and then it disappeared.

I’m still having the same problem and tried all the trouble shooting fixes as well. I too rely on the speech feedback. I hope the glitch is resolved soon.

This is also happening to me, No need to repeat all the steps taken, just sayin’.

I also have vision issues and rely on TTS to communicate with ChatGPT effectively with the work it helps me do. At this time, I’m using my mobile to speak the answers to me while typing my responses on my pc.

I would just like some kind of response that they acknowledge this is an issue and they are working on it.

Same here!
The Listen button wasn’t just a “nice to have”; for many, it was essential. Removing it without warning or a replacement can make the platform less usable for people with visual impairments, learning differences, or those who simply process information better by listening.

I adhere to the complain. Please bring back the TTS on Web based app.

Looks like the change is permanent? It is annoying without this feature. And it makes us lose trust with OpenAI. I think if openAI does all these low key activities behind the back of users, there is a high possibility that users will switch to other better options…or deepseek. Cowardly moves without explanations are the worst for users.

Yesterday I got the TTS feature back in the browser and windows app. Everything is fine. it worked on androids before and now it’s fine. everything is fine

Yay, today I’ve got the speaker/TTS too in my browser under MacOs.
Thanks to the team and all users!
