I’m a ChatGPT Plus user on Android.
After the recent model picker simplification, the model picker has disappeared from the top of the conversation in my Android app. I understand that OpenAI may be moving from explicit model names to reasoning/effort options such as Instant, Medium, and High. However, I can no longer clearly choose or confirm which model or reasoning mode I’m using from the chat screen.
OpenAI’s help documentation says that on iOS and Android, the picker appears at the top of the conversation. In my Android app, it is not visible there.
This may be an intended UI change, but for paid users it is a serious UX regression. For long-term creative work, model choice is not just a speed or performance setting. Different models have different tone, pacing, reasoning style, and continuity. When the app hides or removes clear model selection without clear in-app notice, it breaks the workflow and makes the product feel unreliable.
I don’t need more plugins or hidden UI changes. I need transparent model selection.
Please restore a clear model picker on Android, or at least show the actual model name and reasoning mode at the top of the chat. Paid users should be able to explicitly choose and confirm the model they are working with.
Device: Android
Plan: ChatGPT Plus
Issue: Model picker / model confirmation missing from the top of the conversation
Expected behavior: The model picker or current model / reasoning mode should be visible and selectable at the top of the conversation.
