Strange behavior with GPT-4 limits showing up when only using GPT-4o

Hi, have any other ChatGPT Plus users experienced getting this error/notification when ONLY ever using GPT-4o and o1-preview, and never ever using GPT-4 in the selected drop down menu?

“You’ve hit the Plus plan limit for GPT-4. New responses will use GPT-4o until your limit resets in [insert time] minutes.”

There are three explanations from my view:

  1. This is a bug with ChatGPT for some users where it randomly shows the limit for GPT-4 max quota reached despite you using other models.

  2. GPT-4o’s new Search feature, along with Code Interpreter, DALL-E, and other tools it has access to are using GPT-4 or are counted as GPT-4 quota for each completion.

  3. My account, despite having a very strong password, is compromised and there is someone else using all of my GPT-4 quota in temporary chats, (why wouldn’t they use o1-mini or o1-preview if this was the case anyways).

Appreciate any feedback on this. Been asking around for hours about this elsewhere and haven’t gotten any traction and my posts have been ignored or deleted automatically on other platforms.

Are you certain the message did not say “New responses will use GPT-4o-mini”?

I am very careful with model selection and meticulous about what I’m using every time I check the model. Which is why I’m so concerned, because if it isn’t a bug, there’s no other explanation. Thanks for looking into this

I think it’s just an error in the text that gets used. I will pass this on though.

Legend! Thanks mate. Sorry, I am just a bit paranoid with these unexpected things especially with how comfortable a lot of us are with ChatGPT these days.

I’ve since changed my password to an even higher entropy one, logged out all devices, and added 2FA. Hopefully, if I run into the issue again it means it’s definitely a bug. If I don’t, we’ll never know unless OpenAI or another user mentions this issue.

Please do reach out to this thread if you hear anything about this, it’ll put my mind at ease.

I will do more testing with web/interpreter and see if that might have been the cause of reaching the limit too. Cheers

Of course, we meet regularly with OpenAI to discus issues, while this is the Developer forum and our main focus is on the API and developer usage, we obviously get some ChatGPT overspill, I will pass your message along.
