Sora account creation is temporarily unavailable

I just learned that SORA’s service has been publicly launched, so I visited the site. However, a message appeared stating “Sora account creation is temporarily unavailable,” and I was unable to create an account.

I tried logging in with my OpenAI platform account instead.
Do I need to create a completely separate account for SORA, distinct from my OpenAI platform account?

Also, are others currently able to create SORA accounts?

It said it wasn’t available in my country (vpn exit node in texas)

Then I turned the vpn off to find that you can’t make an account anyways, and that SSO is busted

I’m in the same boat and just keep trying periodically. My understanding is I use my OpenAI login for SORA also. Main thing is you have to have a paid account (Plus/PRO) to be able to access Sora.

Hopefully we’ll be able to login soon.

I wonder if OpenAI’s CISOs are on vacation lol… (looks like they have two?)

Sora accounts are linked to your OpenAI account but they are seperate in the fact that the Sora account requires more info.

Either way, it seems that most people, apart from those who managed to create an account right after the release, might need to wait for a while. I’m not in a rush to use Sora right now, so I’m fine with waiting.
That said, I hope it becomes available to everyone soon—hopefully early next year, or whenever it’s ready.

If the main sora.com page says account creation is not available, you will not have success with further providing login information or trying to proceed. In fact, for your persistence, your browser may be cookied and just return you to a “not available” dialog again when you try to return to the root site page.

Your OpenAI account and subscription is needed for the creation of account and population of credits to use Sora, but it seems the credit system was likely set up before a thought of including existing subscribers as an entitlement into the product materialized. Thus the confusing “login” still being offered, that will or will not work, depending on whether registrations are again opened.

Successful account-creation login just proceeds to the creation of a Sora-specific account with OpenAI authentication, where you also will need to create a new profile username and offer a birth date.

ok so let me be clear:

  • The first lucky timezone lottery winners are “IN” , logged in and creating videos
  • Many people, including me, paid that not small amount of money to upgrade to pro, just to get doomed from getting even a chance to create a video
  • Many people which are in Plus are creating videos and enjoying their luck jumping first to the sora login train, even if they are not supporting the OpenAI as much as the Pro users

makes sense, for sure! (sarcasm off)

Pro users and Plus users have had the same opportunities to sign-up. Even when plus users who were logged in had their creations frozen Pro was still prioritized.

Many people paid for pro instead of first waiting to see if they could create a sora-specific account. Or are making dramatic claims about something that didn’t exist to them 24 hours ago.

The announcement video only described different output quality levels and usage credit available with $200 Pro subscription level, not access. And is also a clever way of not putting things in writing.

The announcement may have made you think that they wouldn’t immediately shut off new account creation because of demand on services.

Or cleverly for OpenAI, one may still hypothesize that if a new mechanism was coded for logins, it could prefer pro subscriptions if you were to not immediately request a refund. That system does not currently exist.

It was still a wheel of timezone luck, imagine i am 10 hours behind, was sleeping when the announcement came. So i was not even able to get a chance to try it.
In my country the Pro subscription is a whole 4 family members household spending for a whole month, and I paid that money for nothing.

Maybe the OpenAI can change the logic and allow the Pro users to jump in even if the servers are struggling wth heavy load, and add a priority option for the Pro users instead of Plus. This would make a sense.

However, as I see that whole Sora boom, the servers will be overloaded for another month or three.

What is my whole point: Youtbers are getting huge amount of views, (money) for publishing what is their experience with Sora.

My Youtube channel will get 0 views from my 0 videos I will create - exactly as many as I will generate Sora videos with my Pro account.

Very fair!! (sarcasm off)

The amount of time for a team member to get back to you about cancelling a pro account may be similar to the time to create a login during periods where Sora registration is open again. But if you spent all your disposable income on an AI entertainment product, I’d request a refund anyway.

I am a bit more luckier and that money is not affecting the quality of my life/my family’s life. I was just comparing how big chunk of money I’ve spent as an investment to a good quality youtube content with intent to promote Sora and give a honest review.

My whole point , what I am trying to say is: this is more than just unfair.
I don’t need that refund, I will play with the o1 Pro model however that seems horrible as well, thinking for 5 minutesm then outputs me lower quality of code than the 4o model :open_mouth:
