Hello OpenAI team,
I wanted to share a product suggestion regarding Sora.
I understand that OpenAI plans to discontinue the Sora web/app experience on April 26, 2026, and the Sora API later in September. Even so, I think there may still be a strong business case for keeping the app/web version alive in a simpler paid-only form.
My suggestion is:
- retire the API if needed,
- keep the standalone Sora app/web product,
- expand access to more countries over time,
- remove free access entirely,
- make Sora a separate paid subscription from ChatGPT.
My reasoning is that many users clearly wanted the app experience itself, not only API access. Also, region restrictions were often bypassed anyway, which suggests there is demand outside the currently supported countries. A cleaner global rollout with proper paid tiers might be easier to manage than limiting access by region while shutting the product down entirely.
A possible pricing structure could be:
- Tier 1: low-cost plan with a small daily generation limit,
- Tier 2: around $15–$25 per month for roughly 20–30 generations per day,
- higher tiers for heavier users with larger generation packs.
This could help cover compute costs while preserving Sora as a premium creative product. It could also keep the offering simpler: no free abuse, no need to subsidize heavy users, and a clearer distinction from ChatGPT subscriptions.
I know strategic decisions are complex, but I wanted to share this because I think shutting Sora down completely may leave demand on the table.
