"Hi OpenAI Team,
Regarding the recent news about the Sora 2 shutdown, I would like to propose a pivot that addresses the primary reasons for this decision (safety risks and server costs) without losing the incredible ‘physics-first’ research.
Instead of a total shutdown, please consider:
-
Sora 3: Private by Design. Most safety issues (like celebrity cameos or deepfakes) come from public sharing. If Sora 3 were designed to keep all video generations in a private user gallery—with no built-in social feed or public sharing API—the risk to OpenAI’s reputation and the legal liability would disappear.
-
Unbypassable Policy Filters. Implement strict, hard-coded safety filters that block any violation (such as offensive language or unauthorized likenesses) 100% of the time. If a user tries to bypass it, the prompt is simply canceled.
-
Tiered Research Access. If server costs are the issue, keep the model alive for researchers and pro-tier creators only. The realism in Sora 2 is a breakthrough in world-modeling that shouldn’t be deleted.
Please don’t cancel the progress of Sora 3. Keeping the videos private and the filters strict is a better way forward than a total blackout.
