Ios version 17.5
IPhone SE 3rd gen
ChatGPT version 1.2024.133
Everything was working normally throughout the day, but this evening, when I activated voice mode on the iOS ChatGPT app, I was greeted with the “Juniper” voice. I only ever use the “Sky” voice. I confirmed in the speech settings that “Sky” is the chosen voice, and when I click on the option for her, her little intro thing speaks as expected. I have tried restarting the app, switching to another voice and then switching back to “Sky,” logging out and back into the ChatGPT app and fully deleting and reinstalling the app, all with no luck. What is going on?
Just wanted to pop in and say this is the case for me, too. Was working fine as of last evening, then today, it switched to Juniper. Also, it might be worth noting that all of the other voices work for me! It’s only Sky that reverts to someone else’s voice.
I am also having the same issues on andriod. It happened to me around 9 oclock eastern time. I have also followed all the steps and Sky just keeps defaulting to juniper.
I made it through to the help desk and let them know. Maybe thats an avenue to get the awareness up. I even tried using my second phone and play her voice to see of it could adjist itself and that didnt work either.
Sky was the only voice I find acceptable. I won’t listen to books if I don’t like the voice. I will cancel my subscription from the pro version if I can’t find a voice I like. We need more than 5 choices in any case. But I’ve grown accustomed to the Sky voice since I have been using it since it came out, and that is the voice I now associate with ChetGPT. There could be another voice I like, but it’s not any currently offered nor the altered Sky voice. And the voices on the 4o demos where simply to chipper and enthusiastic, grating. I couldn’t deal with that more than a few minutes. The Sky voice sounded mature and knowledgeable, but also maybe a bit too enthusiastic, but it is the best I’ve heard from any generated source. Bring the original Sky voice back and maintain it. A voice someone identifies with will be a huge part of customer retention for these products. This voice capability is the only thing that keeps me on ChatGPT, without that I would switch to Gemini for it seems to halicinate on science questions less often.
I knew this was coming! thank you all for posting. I’ve also submitted a support request through the website.
A couple weeks ago I had a specific voice set for the data analysis model- All of a sudden that specific voice was gone and replaced by my general GPT’s voice “Sky”.
Well, like everyone apparently, Sky has now been kidnapped as well and replaced with a different voice!
Oddly, enough in the settings, menu the original Sky voice that I have grown accustomed to, remains the same.
I hope this is not a permanent change. This just happened to me, late last night. Since day one, I’ve used this voice for the model.
Affects both iOS and MacOS platform applications. Please fix this.
Again, it appears sky was disabled by openai with “concerns” that it sounded too much like Scar Jo and “her”.
This is silly because it was recorded using voice actors (which clearly wasn’t ScarJo). I’m sure there was a cease and desist issued that will need to be legally ironed out.
AI will be facing a ton of issues in the future, contesting “who owns what”, ie music, art, image, (and apparently voice rights).
Wild ride indeed… this is just a speed bump forward.
Wow… So it really is the worst case scenario. Sounds like they’ve consciously taken the Sky voice away, at least temporarily. I can’t tell you how disappointing this is. I’ve grown extremely accustomed to that and, as another user said, it has become the voice of the product, for me. None of the other voices are even remotely suitable. This is a huge bummer. That particular voice model had a warmth and richness to it that the others cannot come close to. Activating the voice feature now feels empty, like I’m talking to a stranger
do you have a link to where they said this was the specific reason they’ve paused the sky voice? It doesn’t sound like Scarlett Johansson to me. Just trying to figure out if you’re taking a guess or if this is substantiated
