Okay, does this seriously not bother anyone else? Because I find it really strange. Why are everyone’s forum activity stats public with no option to turn them off?
I’m talking about the ability to see how many posts someone’s clicked, how long they’ve browsed, how many hours they’ve spent on the forum, etc. And there doesn’t seem to be any way to turn the damn thing off.
I don’t get the benefit here. What’s the purpose of making people’s browsing habits visible to everyone? Why does anyone need to know how much time another user spends here or how many topics they’ve looked at? Does that make you more “qualified”?
It’s one thing for this “transparency” to be the default and another for it to be literally unchangeable. And the fact there is a leaderboard for this makes this even weirder for me. Is this Call of Duty? Who brags about hours spent on this forum? Why should anyone care?
I’m honestly surprised this hasn’t come up more often (or maybe it has and I just missed it?). Either way, are you all okay with it? Because to me, this feels way too invasive for no good reason.
Hi,
Welcome to the Developer forum…
I’m kinda ok with it but I get some people aren’t…
I believe you can request to be ‘anonymised’ (which I think is permanent) or to view the forum as a guest and not post…
I guess (but am not sure) that maybe this is a feature of the Discourse forum…
I guess also that most choose who to answer (ie they don’t really want to answer bots) so some level of authentic account kinda helps…
Probably based on your message you don’t want to say WHY you don’t want this information available to others so not sure if I can help you further.
It’s okay to have different opinions, especially on topics like privacy. However, it’s not okay to issue a blanket insult to a community of one million users.

The word “weirdos” wasn’t meant to be insulting. It was meant endearingly. But I get how it can be hard to tell online. Can I upload it again without that?
You can edit your post and it will be listed again.
Thank you for your understanding.

Hey bucko,
Thanks for the warm welcome.
I mean, hey, if you’re cool with it, that’s fine.
Being anonymous does sound better probably.
But if you say me being potentially bot-y is bad for my chances of engagement, maybe I should reconsider the anonymous thing.
I mean, the why is mostly just that I don’t want to worry about random people looking at my account and making assumptions or judgements about me based on whatever is in there. I don’t want to worry every time I click on a thread that this action is logged for all to see forever. And I don’t like that every minute I’m here can be observed by anyone that cares to look at my account.
I know the reality is that no one cares about me enough to do any of that, but it still feels a bit naked to have all of that visible.
In any case, thanks for the answer. I appreciate it.
