Semrush used clickstream data to get insights?

What do you think ?
I think the data transmitted from the chatgpt web app be encrypted…
And what about the downloadable app ?

Hi!
When visiting a website that uses analytics to track user behavior, the traffic source is typically revealed. The agent that OpenAI deploys to perform actions on the web for users identifies itself accordingly, as expected.

It appears that Semrush can access this data for its analysis. However, it cannot trace the activity back to individual users.

As such, I believe everything is as expected. However, please feel free to correct me if I’m mistaken.

There’s a problem: over the last 15+ years, Google and Bing have removed the original query that generated a visit. As a result, when a visitor lands on a website, the original referring query is “not provided.”

The analysis also describes “clickstream” data. Clickstream data means that something has been monitoring user activity BEFORE the query was transmitted to ChatGPT.

There was a scandal a few years ago: several SEO platforms used clickstream data collected from Google searches because an antivirus software was (allegedly) tracking users to prevent accidental clicks on trojans and spyware.

My SEO colleagues and I brainstormed possible sources of such data:

Something is monitoring ChatGPT usage, similar to how an antivirus might operate.

A middleman is intercepting the traffic, such as a VPN selling user data—but shouldn’t the data be encrypted?

External API usage is being monitored: There are countless ways to replicate the ChatGPT experience via API. Such services could log user requests and resell them as behavioral data.

The numbers are simply fabricated.

Any thoughts?

Any news on this? I saw the article too and I thought it was rather suspicious, particularly if this isn’t properly anonymised.

no idea but i think they have a partnership with a company called “Datos”
