The time has come to say goodbye to @edwinarbus, OpenAI’s Developer Community Lead.
During his time, Edwin helped bring greater clarity and focus to the forum, keeping developer needs front and center, whether it involved API guidance or Coding with ChatGPT. He promoted a culture of mutual support, personally helping community members navigate challenging issues directly in the forum and in the background. Staff involvement also increased notably during his tenure, highlighted by memorable events such as the Christmas AMA hosted by the Developer Relations team. Thanks to these combined efforts from Edwin, the broader OpenAI team, and our community members, the forum has continued to grow as a friendly, supportive, and developer-focused space.
Beyond his professional achievements, Edwin has been wonderful to work with—friendly, encouraging, and genuinely committed to supporting developers who build with OpenAI.
Thank you, Edwin! You will be missed and we wish you health, happiness, and continued success on your journey.
Stay connected and follow Edwin on X/Twitter: @edwinarbus.
We’re excited to continue growing this vibrant developer community together. And while I can’t speak officially for Edwin, I’m sure he’d be just as grateful as I am for all your contributions—you make this community what it is today!
he is probably running his into the wall of abstraction vs environment complexity and the properties of emergence (e.g. evolution algorithm is simple but only as good as the quality and complexity of the env)
there are plenty of higher quality talents replacing old talents since it became the bell labs of the century and the surface area for entry became more competitive (at least there is more competition and higher salary for those that are competent)
my bet is he’ll rest for 1-2 years and then either join a startup or start a new one once the dust has settled
also, after she left she (allegedly) joined the community here with an alt account and even talked about auto fine tuning as a possibility which I found quite funny, she (or whoever was impersonating her) has since left and stopped posting/replying (which also coincided with her trip from europe (family visit) to sf (vc investment round in-person meeting))
anyways, godspeed to all that left and all that stayed, may the mental health of all stay healthy and intact in this fast pace gold era of LLMs (and whatever comes next!)
Thank you very much! To all the Leaders and Regulars — it was great getting to know you, and our time was too short together. Although I won’t too far away and you’ll probably still see me around here.
Thank You Edwin for your personally help and private mails. They where for me a strong motivation to work on my plans and carrier as a MD stronger and with more focus.
I wish You the best in your life, and for all a good health!
