Requirement: I propose that forum admins engage with Discourse to provide a new feature or plugin: to alter the suggested topics feature to filter and ignore closed topics, or additionally, filter those aged out since their creation time.
Background: Suggested topics will appear in this forum at the end of a conversation. A “topic” is the forum software’s nomenclature for a initial post and its followup replies, elsewhere commonly a “thread”.
Issue: This screenshot demonstrates the suggested topics feature is populated full of old responses, that were added on top of even older conversation threads, where OpenAI Support account had bumped a stale topic and added a generally-useless automated AI-generated response - and then closed the forum topic themselves.
The final response noted with a count of (1) new response is most assuredly not a useful solution because of the low quality output of these contractors - even when they enjoy calling the termination of the forum topic a “solution” they credit to themselves instead of allowing the initial creator to mark a solution.
The suggested topic can no longer be engaged with, as we note the lock icon.
The feature is not just used when you scroll to the end of a topic of replies. Suggested topics will also appear when a new topic is being created, with the same symptom.
Even when composing this very text, the feature is used in another pop-up over the message preview and shows matches with closed and locked topics (the lock at the left of the title) that are not a place to add new information as an alternative to a new topic.
The ideal solution would be to stop low quality AI-powered dismissive or placating form letter outputs from @OpenAI_Support.
The workaround to the pollution and negative interaction surface the support account is creating, atypical and even bannable behavior elsewhere and where “close” ability would be revoked, is to alter Discourse software: to stop suggesting closed topics.
