I came across this support page, which mentions that the o1 and o1-mini models are available via the API for all users with a paid usage tier. However, my API key doesn’t seem to have access to the o1 model yet, and I also don’t see it listed in the API documentation under the usage tiers.
Does anyone know if there are delays, restrictions, or specific steps required to access this model?
I assume it’s either a mistake or it might be released in the next couple of days.
For now, it doesn’t seem available in the API. I think this here’s a more reliable list of what’s generally available and released: https://platform.openai.com/docs/models
As pure coincidence would have it, got an email this evening granting access (in Ireland, EU), so it must indeed be a growing lottery rather than region specific. Very excited. We’ve some models that will benefit hugely from the upgrade.
Hi OpenAI, I click my bookmarked link everyday to see if I have access (been on Tier5 for a long time) and nothing. It’s quite frustrating having no indication on the timeline. It was announced and communicated as available but actually that’s not true.
Could we get more details on the rollout so we don’t sit on the edge of our seats all day
There is broad availability of o1-preview, but that is not mentioned in the help page.
This OpenAI help document linked must be altered.
It is primarily about ChatGPT.
It is untruthful about the API, though.
o1 as mentioned in the help article as fully available, instead:
is only for tier-5: $1000+ payers
is a small subset of tier-5: those chosen by undisclosed criteria
is almost without evidence of any majority having access, needing justification.
Dec 5: Schwarzer: “We’re all hard at work to bring o1 to the API.”
Dec 17: Pokrass: “Today we’re launching o1-2024-12-17 on the API.”
Dec 17: Godement: “starting rolling out to tier 5, starting today.”
Dec 17: AMA, Pokrass: “We launched o1 with vision inputs today!”
Dec 17: AMA Arbus: “rollout will complete after a few weeks”
Jan 7: Arbus: “rollout has not been paused”, “adding randomized batches”.
Everybody tier-5, after the end of week 4 waiting: “where is it?”
