The technology needed already exists for the most part. The task could be expedited easily using game engine libraries for animations and for the use of the sign language dialects individuals knowledgeable about them could be scanned in mocap performing the gestures. Additionally the basic avatar meant for communication at first could eventually be expanded upon for more personalized Avatars down the road allowing for better engagement for users. The biggest appeal is that OpenAI is one of the leaders in AI tech. If they implement diverse accessibility features then other companies will follow suit. There’s a lot of potential in the implementation of this feature and it is doable. I don’t have the technical skills to do any of this myself but the benefits gained from this feature sell itself.
I’m visually impaired myself but I couldn’t help but imagine the possibilities while I was talking with GPT. I hope the OpenAI team and others will see the value in this idea. I just want to help contribute to inclusivity for all users.
