Preserve the native GPT-6 Chat conversational experience within ChatGPT Work and Codex

I would like OpenAI to make the conversational behaviour of GPT-6 Instant, as experienced in ordinary ChatGPT, available within ChatGPT Work and potentially Codex.

This is not simply a request for GPT-6 model availability or conversation-history portability.

I use ordinary ChatGPT, Work and Codex extensively. Even when they use models from the same GPT-6 family, their conversational behaviour is noticeably different.

Ordinary ChatGPT provides a particularly effective collaborative experience: it explores ideas conversationally, challenges assumptions, maintains continuity across discussions, and helps develop solutions iteratively.

Work and Codex are excellent execution environments, but their interaction styles are more task-oriented and procedural.

I would like to retain the native ChatGPT conversational experience while gaining access to Work’s browser, computer-use, filesystem and application capabilities.

Ideally, users could select:

  • The conversational assistant experience, such as GPT-6 Instant.

  • The reasoning effort.

  • The execution environment, such as Chat, Work or Codex.

These should be independently configurable rather than tightly coupled.

The objective is not simply to transfer conversation history. It is to preserve the assistant’s conversational behaviour, continuity and collaborative reasoning while enabling it to execute tasks.

In short: I want to take the assistant I’ve been collaborating with into Work, rather than switch to a different-feeling assistant whenever I need Work’s capabilities.

I strongly agree with this proposal.

I’ve encountered a closely related limitation in ChatGPT Desktop: native Chat mode cannot be used with Local Projects.

When I try to select a local project while using Chat mode, the application explicitly displays: “Local projects do not support chat.”

This highlights a broader architectural issue.

I believe ChatGPT should separate two independent dimensions:

WHERE: Cloud / Local
HOW: Chat / Agent

Both interaction modes should be available in both environments.

As a researcher, I want to discuss papers, understand codebases, and explore ideas using local project context—then switch to Codex when I’m ready to implement something.

The interaction style and execution environment should be independently selectable.
