Per-Model Usage Tracking for ChatGPT

Right now, ChatGPT shows usage details for Work mode, including 5-hour and weekly limits, but regular Chat mode doesn’t have a similar usage tracker.

I can see how much Work usage I have left in the bottom-left corner, but I can’t find anywhere that shows how much I’ve used in regular Chat mode.

It’s especially frustrating when switching between different models because I have no idea how close I am to reaching their limits until I actually hit them.

My Idea

It would be really helpful to have a dedicated Chat Usage dashboard, similar to the one for Work mode.

Here’s what I’d love to see:

  • Per-model usage tracking: Separate usage stats for each model, like GPT-6, GPT-5.6, GPT-5.5, etc.

  • Remaining allowance: Show how much I’ve used and how much is left, preferably with percentages, progress bars, and message counts where possible.

  • Instant and Thinking usage: Separate tracking for different modes and thinking effort levels, if they have different limits.

  • Reset times: Show exactly when each usage limit will reset.

  • Usage notifications: Let users know when they’re getting close to a limit instead of only notifying them after they’ve reached it.

  • Chat and Work separation: Keep Chat and Work usage clearly separated so it’s easy to understand which limits apply to which features.

If some models share the same usage limit, the dashboard could simply group them together or clearly explain that they share an allowance.

I’d also love to see this information directly in the ChatGPT app, without having to visit a separate website.

Why It Would Be Helpful

I use ChatGPT pretty often, and it would be nice to know how much usage I have left before starting a long conversation or switching to a different model.

Right now, it’s difficult to plan ahead when I don’t know how close I am to reaching a limit.

Work mode already has a useful usage tracker, so I think bringing something similar to regular Chat mode would make ChatGPT much more transparent and convenient to use.

I think this would be a useful improvement for anyone who regularly switches between models or wants a clearer understanding of their usage limits.

This is exactly why I think per-model usage tracking would be useful. I can see that I’ve hit a limit, but I still can’t tell which model limit I reached or how much usage I had left beforehand. And it is telling me to upgrade to Pro.
