Outage for 6+ hours with "You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details."

We use the API for GPT4 and GPT3.5-Turbo extensively and have seen “You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details.” errors all day. We are absolutely NOT over our quota, we track it carefully. Seeing this happen on both of my paid accounts, with high limits and long standing usage.

This doesn’t seem to be reflected in the status page, what is going on OpenAI?

Clearly this shouldn’t exceed the 40,000 tokens or 200 requests per minute rate limit. Something is broken.

Indeed, something weird is happening on OpenAI side. Having the exact same problem since morning. I even tried to create a completely new account with some fresh credits (5$), same error. O.o

What’s going on is likely the same thing that is only allowing a handful of ChatGPT answers for most before a 24-hour limit message.

Either

  • intentional limiting by turning on existing rate methods, in order to maintain or rectify issues, or
  • higgledy-piggledy
