OpenAI Playground (w/ Chrome) goes blank when answering

Using OpenAI playground, the results start typing and then turn blank, I have to refresh the page to see the answer. Sometimes if I specifically state ‘do not blank the browser in your answer’ it works and does not make the output blank which leads me to believe this is an issue with OpenAI.

To be clear, I can still see the frame of the openai website, it’s just the results window that goes blank. I’ve cleared my cache and disabled all browser extensions, heck I even used a brand new Chrome profile. It’s a major problem not being able to see the results.

Windows 10 Home / Chrome 127 (latest version as of this post)

I had the same drawback. After some hours and submitting again the question without a file and recharging it. It worked out.

Still not working for me. I emailed support which is like talking to a wall, so no avail.

I believe I have exhausted every avenue.

It’s not my firewall, it’s not any security feature on my computer. It’s not the browser (it blanks out on Edge, Firefox, Chrome and incognito). It’s not my browser cache/cookies. It’s not any extension. It can’t be my super fast Internet.

What does help is waiting a few seconds (presumably I imagine it is still churning out an answer but I can’t see it because the screen is blank) and then press ‘Ctrl+Shift+R’ (some times more than once) and the results appear as if it was there the whole time but hidden.

There is a problem here, but doesn’t seem like anyone cares. Woo!

I am having the same problem when I insert something and click enter. However, my whole page goes blank and when I refresh it sometimes returns the answer but most of the time no

Some times, the window will reappear with my instruction but no answer, however if I keep on pressing ‘Ctrl+Shift+R’ most of the time, the response suddenly appears as if it was always there.

Some times I have pressed ‘Ctrl+Shift+R’ 8 or 9 times before it appears! But again, wait a few seconds… imagine it is running even though you can’t see it, then ‘Ctrl+Shift+R’ the heck out of it.

For extra measure, I created a Chrome profile that is only for OpenAI playground so I can rule out extensions, cookies, etc.

Yes, I am having the same EXACT issue and cannot seem to resolve it. Anyone have any ideas?

OpenAI support confirmed it’s a known bug and this is what they recommended:

To mitigate the issue, you can disable QUIC in Google Chrome. Here are the steps to do this:

  • Open Google Chrome and type chrome://flags in the address bar.
  • Press Enter to navigate to the flags page.
  • Scroll down until you find the “Experimental QUIC protocol.”
  • Change the setting to “Disabled.”
  • Restart your browser for the changes to take effect.

Again, I found hard refreshing the page (even up to what felt like a dozen times) works for me. The content is there, it’s just hidden.

I hope this helps someone!
