OpenAI Dev Day 2023 Live Reactions

Got it hooked up here mostly…

Your credits are still good, I think. If not, let me know if you want to try it out. Still need to change some prompts…

Yes, I know.

I think you are responding to something you imagined I wrote.

I have written, at very considerable length elsewhere, about the lack of substance for copyright claims against both those who train models and those who use them. But, that’s neither here, nor there.

The simple fact their cases lack merit will not stop copyright-holders from filing lawsuits against anyone and everyone they feel have abused their rights—this is an 800-pound gorilla stepping between all of them and all of us.

That is the big deal.

It’s not about the merits of the potential cases (which, again, I think are largely lacking), it’s about the fact that as of right now, none of us need fear going bankrupt from legal fees stemming from of our use of OpenAI’s generative models. They’re basically saying, to the effect of, “if you want to get to @jwatte you’ll have to go through us first.” That is monumental—regardless of the merits of any potential future cases.

haven’t been able to figure out how to use the assistant playground yet? Have you done so and do you have an example? Thanks

No, I won’t have time to really dive into it until later this week.

Honestly, I feel like OpenAI just blew up everything and I feel like my entire accumulated knowledge barely scratches the surface of what it will be possible to do now.

The rest of the year will be incredibly exciting as all the people much smarter than I am dive into the new toys and discover entirely new possibilities.

One great advantage of the update is the chatGPT will now know about it’s interfaces (at least the earlier ones) and will have been trained on some of the wealth of code using AI APIs so will be more useful than it was before in writing code for AI work.

That was the base URL out of the API.

Pretty much only useful if you are creating plugins or are an administrator.

You can change the resolution.

That doesn’t sound right but okay!

Not sure what this is.

Ok. But you can find by reading that it says that it splits/downscales images to 512x512. It was just something interesting I found while reading up I thought to share.

It’s an alternative OCR that I was using. Google Cloud, and then Vision (I mean, come on GPT-4 VISION and Google Cloud VISION? )

Maybe you were under the impression that I was talking about Dall-E? I can see how I left it a bit unclear.

I was talking about DALL-E 3 not Vision there is the confusion.

I’m excited. What can I say. I went on a tangent.

I should’ve have made it more clear. Oh well :person_shrugging: I guess I wrongly assumed people would make the connection.

Do you know how to get in beta testing of GPTs?

Will they publish their devday demo repo for the Wanderlust segment?

Hey I need some help with this, anyone else had problems receiving these credits? The email that I received the invitation was a different one from the org-ID that I have, I think this may have caused troubles for some people?

Do you have an account on your invitation email? Maybe if you created an OpenAI account with the invitation email you would receive them? I’m not sure, this was such an unexpected move.

On some drawbacks, he pointed out perceived limitations with the new image-processing algorithm. jesus reported an error in the pip package for not supporting the new beta features and identified a typo in the code examples provided by OpenAI.

[RonaldGRuckus](/t/-/475167/28; /t/-/475167/48) agreed on the game-changing potential of the assistants endpoint and the excitement around revenue sharing. He was unsure if ChatGPT Plus subscribers would get access to the new larger context and predicted the GPT marketplace and “Actions” might eventually overshadow current plugins. Finally, he shared a screenshot hinting at a free testing period and expressed anticipation about stress testing the new features with data sheets.
