I am extremely frustrated with the way ChatGPT’s memory system works.
Without my explicit permission, it automatically saved dozens of shallow, useless memories like “Interested in buying an electric guitar,” “Likes classic rock,” “Plays guitar,” etc.
I did NOT ask for these to be saved. These small, automatic memory saves wasted my account’s memory space and pushed my usage to 96% full. Now I am forced to manually clean up hundreds of unnecessary entries — a massive waste of my time, caused by your system’s poor design.
I want OpenAI to acknowledge:
- That the memory auto-save system needs serious improvements (specifically, there should be an option to approve or reject auto-saved memories before they are stored permanently).
- That users should have a “bulk edit” or “bulk delete” tool instead of deleting memories one-by-one.
- That until memory design is improved, OpenAI should not punish users by letting memory storage fill up with system-generated junk.
I expect a clear response about how OpenAI will fix this problem.
I am not the only one facing this — many users are being hurt by the current bad design.
Respect our time and give us real control over our data.
Thank you.
