We’d like to share some feedback regarding the MCP app publishing experience.
Currently, whenever a new version of an app is published, existing end users are required to reconnect the app to see the update. However, there is no notification or indication from the platform that this reconnection is required.
From the end user’s perspective, the app simply stops working, which creates confusion and unnecessary support requests for developers. Many users assume the app is broken rather than understanding they need to reconnect it.
It would be extremely helpful if the platform could:
- Notify existing users when a reconnect is required after an app update.
- Prompt users to reconnect directly within ChatGPT when they attempt to use the app.

Thanks for raising this, @Shay-NoodleSeed. I can see why this is confusing for both developers and end users.
Right now, this is a known limitation. According to the MCP apps documentation, ChatGPT uses a "frozen" snapshot of an approved app's tools, so updates are not applied automatically. Admins need to refresh and republish app changes, and if a tool definition changes in a way that's not backward compatible, users can run into errors until that update is reviewed and published. The docs also note that users are not currently shown a prompt to update, and admins are not proactively notified when an app needs review. (OpenAI Help Center)
That makes your suggestions for reconnect prompts and user notifications especially valuable, since they would help reduce confusion and unnecessary support requests when updates require user action.
