Bluetooth seems to play a role. If I switch Bluetooth off, soud gets louder. Still I cannot use the full volume of my phone.

I have two Android tablets, one without a cellular modem (Boox Nowa Air) and the other with a modem but without a SIM card inserted (Doogee T20 Mini). On both of them I have normal loud sound from the speaker (Boox has only one regular speaker) during voice chat with AI.
However, this does not change the fact that the application does not work properly on Android, because it can only work in telephone conversation mode and when speaking, you have to put your mouth close to the microphone for the AI to understand your speech.

issues involving quiet apps like this happen when an apps sound system is [over engineered]

usually its written to be used with one system, and ported to another - and someone forgets to tune the audio settings… or so ive been told.

To offer my perspective, I solve such problems one of three ways.

  • Root + custom sound mixer system.
  • modification of the APK to make the device think the volume is lower than it is, and thus forcing it to increase the volume.
  • external audio device.

As much as i know about smartphones, I cant give you an easy direct solution.
However in ADB theres a chance you can manipulate volume.

And while on its face that seems complicated - on the other hand… we are all using GPT…

I was really hoping this would be addressed. But saw another post somewhere else that suggested it could be by design to allow the mic/speaker to remain active when the phone screen is turned off. I like that feature but the volume seems more important to me. It’s very difficult to hear in an environment where there is background noise.

I think that they have improved it in the latest update, and now it’s a bit louder. Don’t you think? Did you notice that, guys?

I don’t see any improvement. The sound comes from a speaker designed to be placed next to the ear. When I change the volume, Android shows that the phone call volume is adjusted. When I run the Bing application with GPT4, the sound comes from the loudspeaker and the volume control has a “media” icon.

The issue is definitely related to the direction that the audio is pushed out to. Switching off Bluetooth immediately solves the problem for me. All works well while Bluetooth is off.

I have the same issue on Android 13. It is difficult to hear even some distance from the traffic. I got so frustrated I decided not to use it outside. I don’t know why it is taking so long to fix it. Many people lives with hearing difficulties they can’t use it.

Same issue as everyone. What is the point of going multimodal if the execution is so poorly done?
Also I can’t use an external mic on top of my bluetooth headphones. There would be no sound output.
Please openAi, output the sound as audio bluetooth not calls on android phone. It is a major bug.
It is a shame to have such amazing voice synthesis and not be able to hear a thing because the output is treated as voice call.

Same issue on Samsung S22 Ultra. It uses the van Bluetooth connection as a “call” with low bitrate, quiet sound issues instead of the media stream that most apps would use. I hope its patched soon as it takes the fun out of the amazing new conversation feature!

It seems like chatgpt voice uses the call volume instead of the music volume slider on my Google pixel 6a just wonder if this is the same as other people?

Yes. I have the same problem. I use an Android phone, Samsung Galaxy S20FE, and the voice on ChatGPT is terrible. It got worse after version 1.2023.285, now is barely usable. Too faint, too poor quality, and I can’t send the audio via Bluetooth. My audio volume is on 100% but it’s very low. I don’t know what to do anymore.

Yes. It uses like a phone call, and after the latest updates, it got worst. Very low quality audio. I can barely hear the voice.

I have the same issue here, my phone is Redmi 9t.

Open char GPT app, start and connect audio chat, open Phone Call app, dial someone, and switch to external speaker during call, the close phone call app before attending of call, thats it, your chat gpt will now chat with you on external speaker.

I have the same problem with low volume on Samsung S20 and Xiaomi Pad 6.

Same issue for my Android phone, but the volume is fine if I connect the phone to a bluetooth device (then audio via the bluetooth device) or if I temporarily turn off bluetooth (then audio via the phone). So you can turn off phone bluetooth and try again. In any case a better solution is needed.
