Locked out of Codex because of an old phone number?

I’ve been at it for a while, escalated the issues and all roads lead to the same suggestion from the support. ‘Cancel this account and start fresh’.

I don’t think there’s a fix coming because I don’t think OpenAI believes there’s any issues that needs to be fixed.

I got auto moved to this thread which is just amazing. I don’t have an issue with an old phone number. I have an issue with my current phone number. Somehow I got moved to a “solved” thread which was solved by direct intervention from an actual human in support. If you all have any more of those humans sitting around, I sure could use one.

I posted about this issue previously but then my thread was moved to a solved thread which solved an issue that wasn’t my actual problem. The other thread was for people who didn’t have access to their phone number. I have the same phone number but I’m getting an error that says, “This phone number is already linked to the maximum number of accounts.”

If Codex is counted toward the 3 account maximum, I have 1 account where I’ve generated an API key. If Codex is not counted toward this, I have 0. I was able to use this account around a month ago and I swear that I’ve never had to enter a phone number to gain access before. I can still freely log in to ChatGPT without being sent to a phone verification page but now, anytime I try to log in to codex, it sends me to auth.openaidotcom/add-phone. I don’t want to add a phone. I just want to access Codex.

Any help that an actual human could provide would be much appreciated. The boilerplate answers that I’ve received from support don’t actually answer my questions.

I don’t think this thread is marked as solved. Also, I don’t think this issue is looking to be solved anytime soon. It appears OpenAI has baked phone-number as some unique identifier, so no phone, no service. Also, once an account gets a unique identifier (phone #) it becomes a permanent immutable value for eternity. @OpenAI_Support if you guys could chime in that would be greatly appreciated.
