I would like to suggest an improvement for the ChatGPT chat history interface.
Right now, chat titles are often too general, and after some time it becomes difficult to understand what is inside each conversation without opening it. A chat title may show something simple like “Research Help,” “Project Ideas,” “Code Issue,” or “Travel Plan,” but the actual chat may contain important files, images, Deep Research reports, PDFs, code, or long technical discussions.
The main issue is that users cannot quickly see the internal content of each chat from the chat history. This becomes a problem when a user has many conversations and wants to find one specific chat that contains important material.
My suggestion is to show small icons, tags, or counters next to each chat title to summarize what is inside the conversation.
For example:
“Research Plan”
Tags/Icons: 3 PDFs, 2 Deep Research reports, 1 image
“Job Application”
Tags/Icons: 1 CV, 2 email drafts, 1 PDF
“Coding Help”
Tags/Icons: Python, 4 code blocks, 1 uploaded file
“Design Ideas”
Tags/Icons: 5 images, 1 document, brainstorming
“Study Notes”
Tags/Icons: summary, PDF, explanation, references
This would make the chat history much easier to use. For example, if a user remembers that a conversation had three uploaded images and two Deep Research results, they could identify it immediately without opening many chats one by one.
Deep Research results are especially important because they can contain long, valuable, and time-consuming research outputs. If they are hidden inside ordinary chat titles, they can easily get lost among many normal conversations. It would be very useful if chats containing Deep Research had a visible indicator, such as a “Deep Research” badge or icon.
Useful indicators could include:

This feature would help users who use ChatGPT for long-term work, research, study, coding, writing, planning, and professional projects. Many users do not use ChatGPT only for quick questions; they build knowledge and workflows across many chats. Better visual organization of chat history would make it much easier to find important conversations later.
In short, chat history should not only show a title. It should also show what kind of content exists inside each chat using small icons, badges, tags, and counters.
