The built-in voice dictation on ChatGPT has been amazing. Sometimes if I’m talking too long during my prompt and I think that there will be an error (which usually happens if if I talk for more than five minutes) I will break down a prompt into chunks.
Ever since I updated my iOS app to the latest version regrettably have no microphone button to continue dictating after I’ve done some dictating in the prompt. So all I can do is upload my incomplete prompt or go back to using the unusable iOS dictation. Not good. The miraculous voice to text built into ChatGPT is what makes me enjoy using the app so let’s not make it vanish thanks!
Same issue here. Also see thread “Lost ability to pause and continue dictation in iOS app update” Please bring back dictation or I’ll need to switch AI providers (not exaggerating).
I completely agree and it’s super frustrating. It has literally broken my workflow. I was hoping that they will fix it in a matter of days but the issue remains. Is there anything we can do to draw their attention to it? I’m about to send them a letter! Aren’t there more people affected by this?!
Same here. I just found out today. Previously you can dictate multiple times but now the dictation button is gone after the first try. PLEASE FIX THIS!!!
Same issue . I contacted support so hopefully they can bring it back. They need to stop messing with it . They did this a few months ago and they fixed the issue now they do this as if this is better.. it’s not. The main reason I use or even pay monthly for chat gpt is to be able to voice to text. They really took 16492083627930 steps back with this one. It’s literally the best feature they have . Why take it away? Hopefully there is a resolve soon.
I literally sign up just to submit this feedback and the first one I saw was this.
I have been relying on (addicted to) this feature for the past few months and it’s really frustrating when it’s taken away. I often dictate long messages into the input box and the inability to resume is painful - now I had to use the iOS built in dictation which is really bad.
I feel like OPEN AI isn’t listening to the user segment they should be listening to the most which is heavy users that are trying all features that they’re launching. I wish we as heavy uses could have a couple of big name influencers that could talk about the little details that are negatively impacting everyday user experience so that on their way to building the big things, they don’t forget about the little things that matter today..
Just to add my comment here I am an accessibility user and it’s vital that I can stop and start dictating in the same box. They’ve made it pop-up box now which is why we can no longer continue to dictate long messages. I have raised it as an accessibility issue, but I’m extremely disappointed and upset at this change.
And yes, I could use my mic on my phone, however it’s not as good.
I understand that the primary creators are only interested in making better AI. There’s nothing wrong with that, but if you wish to continue in this pursuit, you want to have as successful a business as possible. This means engaging in customer discovery and being willing to pivot to improve your product-market fit.
Netflix and Airbnb, are big names, largely thanks to the fact that they didn’t stick rigidly to their original business models. Netflix was DVD rental, not streaming. The creator of Airbnb wanted the hosts to make breakfast for the guests and act as local tour guides.
I’m not saying that the primary AI developers have to work on UX or things like dictation. But you should ensure that you do have enough other people devoted to that to keep your customer base happy. Heck, your dictation is already so superior to what’s available on natively through Apple that you should probably talk to Apple about letting them use your version.
I came here to see if anyone is facing the same issue. The ChatGPT dictate is the best audio-to-text engine I’ve used. So upset they are fiddling with it unnecessarily. Hoping any OpenAI insider would notice and fix the problem.
According to the latest update from ChatGPT, the issue has been fixed. You can now stack dictated messages. However, there is still a problem: if you type a text, the text disappears. They are very close to fully fixing this.
I can confirm this is mostly fixed! However, if you start typing first, the microphone icon will still disappear. The microphone icon shows up only if you start a message by dictating, even if you make some edits using keyboard midway through.
