For the last couple of days, voice chat with custom gpts has not been possible.
It seems that the advanced voice model may have broken this functionality, which is extremely frustrating given that I primarily interact with a custom gpt.
I can dictate to the model, hear the recognition system chirping away but the moment it comes to generating a spoken response, the system just clicks and does nothing.
I attempted to report this to support and there has been no response 24 hours later.
It feels like the advanced voice model has been rushed despite a four-month wait. At this point in time, I wish it hadn’t been released at all.
Is anyone else noticing that custom GPTs are getting left behind with these new voice features? The Advanced Voice Mode seems more focused on being playful rather than offering real utility. It can’t browse the web and doesn’t really add much value, making it feel like a novelty rather than an enhancement.
Meanwhile, custom GPTs—built for serious use cases—are now missing basic voice functionality, making them a bit frustrating to use. It’s like we’re losing practical features in favour of something more gimmicky.
I was super excited to test out advanced voice mode myself then came the first disappointment: can’t be used with my custom GPT. Decided to flip back within minutes to my custom GPT (my research assistant) and discover the second and more disheartening disappointment: no voice functionality. I primarily utilize my custom GPT in voice chat to help process my research. This is just terrible.
Yep, also an issue for me and quite frustrating. Voice is the primary way I interact with my custom gpts. As much as advanced voice is useful, would not want the sacrifice of standard voice in custom gpts.
I should have come here sooner… thought I fried all my agents and almost went psycho trying to fix them. Now I can chill til the upfix. Thanks to all
Omg Same, its the worst.
I have two assistants I log results from working with resin and other chemicals into so that I can chat to them about my process while I’m handling stuff that I cant be smearing all over the screen.
Same issue as everyone. Else I just want to turn off advanced voice mode for my custom GPT’ s but Ian unable to. Any ideas. Slowly going bald pullin my hair out

Can confirm:
GPT voice mode is not working, at least when accessing custom GPTs using the Android ChatGPT App.
And, yes, it is extremely annoying.

Open Ai Help Team really was not helpfull.
They kind of confirmed that voice output is not working, but this followed by a lengthy “just update everything” proposal.
Did not make sense.
I’ m experiencing this too. I use voice mode with my custom GPT’s for so many things daily, so this is really messing things up for me.
I’m also using an android, and unfortunately there’s nothing to update about the chatgpt app, so yeah, does not make sense.
I don’t think they are hearing us on this issue. They have yet to clearly state if this is a “Feature” or a bug. I REALLY hope this is not a trend away from Custom GPT development in order to fully capture the voice interaction channel for themselves. There are plenty of other platforms to choose from, but I’m already invested in this one, so I hope this is resolved quickly.
Just here to add my frustration and hope that the more voices complaining about this the sooner it’s addressed as an issue.
I wonder if this is universally broken?
I had some other glitches occur -the app welcomed me to advanced voice mode, but I’m in the EU and it’s not actually available here. So I wondered if maybe voice mode not working in GPT was a related glitch - but it sounds like you might be in a region that has advanced voice mode?
This is driving me crazy. I’m in the EU, but the app does show me that I have access to advanced voice mode. Regardless, no voice conversations are possible. It keeps loading endlessly.
Even speech to text doesn’t work. I hope they fix this soon, I use voice mode all the time with my gpt’s.
