Since late October / early November 2025, GPT Project threads stopped sharing access to the same project files.
This is a major regression.
For months I have been using multi-branch workflows where several threads inside one GPT Project could read the same uploaded CORE documents, MASTER_RULES, logs, and other files.
This behavior was stable and predictable — and essential for long-term structured work.
Now each thread behaves like an isolated container:
-
project files are no longer visible across threads
-
CORE documents have to be re-uploaded in every branch
-
multi-branch workflows collapse because threads cannot access shared project files
-
several months of organized work can no longer be continued
I may be just one individual user, but my long-term workflows matter too.
Large teams can rebuild fast — I can’t.
This regression broke the system I rely on every day.
I am not a developer by training — learning to build such a structured system inside GPT Projects took me months of effort.
Losing shared file access makes it impossible to maintain or rebuild that system.
For large engineering teams this might be a minor workflow change, but for an individual user it is devastating.
Was this change intentional?
Is shared file access across GPT Project threads going to be restored?
If others experience this issue, please comment — this impacts anyone using Projects for long-term structured work.
