I am a ChatGPT Pro subscriber who uses Codex, and I am looking for a supported way to preserve access to my existing OpenAI account when my Google sign-in is no longer available.
Where the login flow fails
- The account was created using Continue with Google.
- Google has disabled the linked Google account. Even after entering my Google password and an Authenticator code, Google still requires SMS verification to an old phone number that has been disconnected. The carrier cannot restore that number, and the Gmail inbox is inaccessible.
- I have already tried Google account recovery and my familiar devices.
- I also tried adding an OpenAI password in account settings, but that action requires Google reauthentication, so it leads back to the same blocker.
This is a failure at Google authentication, not the separate Codex old-phone verification issue that occurs after successful OpenAI sign-in. I do not want to risk losing any remaining signed-in sessions by logging out or revoking the Google connection.
Support status and request
On September 16, 2026, I contacted the OpenAI Help Center. The conversation confirmed that it had been escalated to a support specialist. I have not been shown a case number yet.
Has anyone recovered from this exact situation through a supported ownership-verification process? Is there an account-access team that can assess whether the original account can retain its Pro subscription, Codex access, and existing history while an alternative login method or contact email is established?
@OpenAI_Support, could you help identify the correct route for this existing escalation, or explain how I can obtain its case number and provide ownership evidence privately? I am not asking to bypass authentication or to cancel my subscription.
I will provide account identifiers and any requested verification evidence only through official private support channels. Please do not suggest deleting the Google-to-OpenAI connection as a way to create a password; that does not resolve the missing login method.
