Locked out of both ChatGPT and API due to lost MFA device and recovery codes —- no alternative method available

Hi,

I’m completely locked out of my OpenAI account because I lost the phone that I was using for MFA, and I no longer have access to my authenticator codes or recovery/backup codes.

The problem is that when I try to sign in to ChatGPT or the OpenAI API Platform, I’m asked to complete MFA, but there is no usable alternative verification method available. The “Try another method” option does not give me an option to verify through email or another method that I can currently access.

As a result, I cannot access ChatGPT or the OpenAI API at all.

I have already contacted OpenAI Support, but so far I have only received generic troubleshooting instructions that do not solve the situation. I understand that MFA is designed to prevent unauthorized access, but in this case I am the legitimate owner of the account and I need a way to recover access after losing my MFA device.

I would really appreciate it if an OpenAI staff member could review this situation or escalate my support case to someone who can handle account recovery/MFA issues.

What I need:

  • A way to verify ownership of the account through an alternative method.

  • Alternatively, a manual reset/removal of the current MFA method so I can configure MFA again on a new device.

  • Access restored to both ChatGPT and the OpenAI API Platform.

I am happy to provide whatever non-sensitive information is necessary to verify ownership of the account. I will not post passwords, MFA codes, API keys, recovery codes, or other authentication secrets publicly.

Support case: 15513074、15515829

If anyone from OpenAI Support can help escalate this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you.
