Google Drive Integration Broken — Invalid API Developer Key Error in ChatGPT

When I’ve tried to upload from a connected google drive I’ve encountered this error:

Title:
:paperclip: “Add from Google Drive” Results in “Invalid API Developer Key” Error in ChatGPT

Body:
When using the “Add from Google Drive” option in the ChatGPT file attachment UI, the following error is consistently displayed:

There was an error!
The API developer key is invalid.

This happens immediately after clicking “Add from Google Drive” and prevents users from accessing or importing any files from Google Drive.

:test_tube: Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open any ChatGPT thread (Plus / GPT-4).
  2. Click the :paperclip: attachment icon in the message box.
  3. Choose “Add from Google Drive.”
  4. A white screen appears with an error message:
“The API developer key is invalid.”

:cross_mark: Expected Behavior:

The user should be authenticated with Google Drive and allowed to browse and select files from their Drive for upload into ChatGPT.

:red_exclamation_mark: Actual Behavior:

An error screen is displayed immediately, blocking any file interaction via Google Drive.

:wrench: Workarounds Tried:

Method Result Notes
Manual download/upload :white_check_mark: Success Works fine but not ideal for cloud-based workflows.
Shared Drive link :cross_mark: Not usable Requires direct access or integration, which fails.
Publish-to-web workaround :white_check_mark: Works But this simply bypasses Drive integration; it’s a static web page.

:toolbox: Environment:

Item Value
Platform ChatGPT Web (chat.openai.com)
Plan ChatGPT Plus
Model GPT-4o
Browser Chrome (latest version)
OS Windows 11
Date Observed April 6, 2025

:pushpin: Request:

I guess it would make sense to investigate the broken Google Drive integration — the error strongly suggests an expired, invalid, or misconfigured API key used in the backend. A fix or official statement would be greatly appreciated, as this impacts cloud-based workflows.

Same here. Any updates on that @OpenAI_Support ?

No, not yet from my side, no updates. Normally I don’t need it. But, still seems to be broken for everyone. I guess.

Since Mark Kashefs uploaded another video 3 hours ago tackling this video, I hope he didn’t connect it before, it seems to be fixed. Let’s give it a try.

YES. They’ve fixed it.

the whole google drive connection is still broken for me (as a plus user):

as soon as i click on “Add Account” nothing happens. i see a broken ui:

and some errors in the browser console:

For me it worked recently when I tried it again.
Do you have several google accounts? Maybe you can try with another if it fails with an equal message. Thanks.

I just retried it right now, yes. It works for me. AND recently OpenAI announced it even on youtube that this is now possible. LOL.

So, why not just try again now, possibly with an alternative account, if possible for you?

i think you don´t get it: how shall i try with “another” if i cannot connect ANY account ? that´s the point. i also tried edge and firefox, so this is a general problem here. i am not able to connect a google account at all ;-((

Ok, if you can’t connect any… Given. You’re right. Because for me back then it only worked with ONE. And I had 3 to try. 2 of mine and one of my woman. Only my second one worked. That’s what I meant.

luck you. i hope someone from @OpenAI_Support is watching this thread…

They should. Because otherwise this section would be in vain. Isn’t it?

this wouldn´t be the first time, isn´t it ?

Hey. Are you here located?

Connectors in beta for deep research (Plus, Pro, Team, Enterprise, Edu)

ChatGPT Team, Enterprise, and Edu customers globally can use connectors in deep research, as well as Pro and Plus users (excluding users in Switzerland, EEA, and the UK) to generate long-form, cited responses that include your company’s internal tools.

i´m plus and located in german. and i cannot connect anything!
i don´t even see the connectors menu item in the settings !
so there must be something wrong here

the chatbot confirms:

Currently, connectors in ChatGPT (including Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, Outlook, Gmail, and others) are not supported for Plus or Pro users located in Germany (as well as the wider EEA, Switzerland, and the UK). This is due to regional restrictions, and is not an issue with your account specifically. That’s why you do not see the connectors option in your settings, and there is nothing you need to fix on your end. If you need connectors, they are currently only available globally on Team, Enterprise, and Edu plans, but not for Plus or Pro in your region.

as always: F*CK EU !
