Flexible Rate Limit Resets for Codex and a method to get a Reset

dont use it for 5h it would be a waste, use it after your weekly ran out

So… is this extended in such a way that I can sleep on a codex account for a week and bank that reset?

Because that would be absolutely amazing for us… Getting unused weeks rolled over into a banked reset.

The reset feature recently introduced by Codex is a great idea in principle, but its current operating logic is completely different from what I understood, and I believe this creates a serious and unreasonable problem.

I was supposed to receive my weekly credit reset in two days. Based on my understanding of the new feature, I expected that I would still receive that reset at the scheduled time. However, I used up my limit today and pressed the reset button immediately. After doing so, the system informed me that my next weekly reset would only be available again in seven days.

This is extremely unreasonable. Under this design, using the reset button effectively pushes back the original weekly reset schedule, rather than providing an additional benefit. In other words, if a user uses up their credit limit close to the regular reset time, they are forced to choose between waiting without access or pressing reset and losing the upcoming scheduled reset. This does not feel logical or fair.

More importantly, if the reset depends on the user manually clicking the button, then users who do not click it immediately when it becomes available are effectively delaying their next reset. This means that, over the course of a month, the total amount of usable credit may actually decrease rather than increase. Instead of improving the user experience, this design unintentionally encourages users to use up their weekly credit limit as quickly as possible and reset immediately, which seems contrary to the purpose of the feature.

I strongly urge you to reconsider and adjust this mechanism. The reset feature should not penalize users for using it near their scheduled reset time, nor should it reduce the total credit users can access over time.

I am on Linux and in VSCode I got to know of this feature only after I ran out of my usage limits. But yes, it works on linux.

I still don’t see the option to reset usage. On my account page on the desktop site for Codex.

So there seems to be no way for me to see how many resets I have as a Linux user with Codex CLI and the vscode extension. Also, I noticed that my limits reset early today on the 17th when they weren’t due until the 19th.

Regarding the rate limit resets:
There was a reset tonight, in addition to one banked reset that was added for everyone.

Regarding the observation that banked resets are not accessible on Linux when using the VS Code extension, I will need to check in with the team.

Let me use those two little guys bored out there until my account expires in two days.

This is a pretty frustrating, buggy roll-out tbh. I am on the $200/month plan. I never got my introductory promotional banked reset.

I referred two friends. One successfully got me a banked reset. The other never got the delivery link in his inbox, it is not in SPAM, JUNK, etc. - it was never delivered. He wants to sign up to a paid account and I have no way to re-send the referral.

So by my tally, I got one - but I should have the first ā€œfreeā€ one that never arrived, which comes with the plan (2) - and my friend can’t even sign up - but that would be (3). I guess I still have oe attempt left for (4).

Anyway, botched feature roll-out and the promo is ending soon. Waste of time.

yeah, seemed so cool of them, then when push comes to shove you realize it’s all ā€œbest effortā€ rather than hard truths. who knows maybe these fabled resets might materialize, but not holding my breath.
