Dear OpenAI team,
Please consider an optional flexible-usage mode for Codex that allows developers to use their paid subscription capacity when they need it, rather than waiting for scheduled weekly resets.
When a user exhausts their weekly allowance but still has time remaining in their paid month, offer the choice to bring forward the next weekly allowance—or additional future allowances covered by that payment—to continue working immediately.
Under this option, I would willingly exchange my remaining subscription time for earlier access to the corresponding usage. If I choose to use all the allowance covered by my monthly payment today, I would accept that my subscription period also ends today. I could then decide whether to renew immediately or stop, rather than being forced to wait while an important development project is unfinished.
This is not a request for unlimited usage or additional free compute. It is a request to use the capacity I have paid for more flexibly. Developers’ workloads are not evenly distributed: some days require intensive coding, while other days require little or none.
Before each early reset, please clearly show the allowance being unlocked, the remaining allocation, the revised subscription end date, and any effect on other plan benefits. Early renewal or an additional charge should require explicit confirmation. Users who do not select this option should retain their normal subscription arrangement.
The principle is simple: let users choose between spreading their allowance across the month or consuming it sooner and voluntarily renewing earlier. This could support uninterrupted development while keeping OpenAI’s compute costs and subscription revenue sustainable.
