Feedback on Message Limitations for Plus Users

Dear OpenAI Team,

I hope this message finds you well. First, I want to thank you for creating such an amazing and valuable tool. I use ChatGPT regularly for a variety of purposes, such as cryptocurrency analysis, speculative discussions, and productivity. However, as a paying Plus subscriber, I’ve encountered some significant frustrations with the current system of message limitations.

Below are the primary issues I’ve experienced:

1. Message Caps in a Three-Hour Window:
The fifty-message limit feels restrictive, especially for users like me who use the platform continuously for meaningful discussions or work. The cap discourages seamless conversations and forces me to ration my questions and responses unnaturally.

2. Replies from ChatGPT Counting Toward the Limit:
It feels unfair that replies from the assistant count as part of the fifty-message limit. For a user like me, who values the depth and quality of responses, this reduces the practical utility of the service. Counting only the user’s messages would allow for a more natural and productive experience.

3. Inconsistent Understanding of “Unlimited Use”:
There’s some confusion regarding GPT-3.5 being advertised as “unlimited” but still having a limit. Transparency about these restrictions would be appreciated to set expectations for users accurately.

4. Unnecessary Message Consumption from Stumbles in Speech:
As a trilingual user, I sometimes pause, mumble, or stumble when speaking, which leads ChatGPT to respond prematurely. These wasted exchanges consume my message quota unnecessarily and disrupt the flow of conversation.

Proposed Solutions:

  1. Increase the message cap for Plus users to better accommodate intensive use cases.
  2. Count only the user’s messages toward the limit, not the assistant’s replies.
  3. Offer an alternative pricing tier for unlimited or higher-cap messaging tailored to power users.
  4. Implement a lightweight mode for conversations with less computational load (e.g., normal dialogue or brainstorming), reserving stricter limits for heavy tasks like coding or data analysis.

I truly believe these changes would greatly enhance the experience for users like me, who rely on ChatGPT for daily productivity and creative thinking. I hope you’ll consider these suggestions seriously, as they reflect not only my thoughts but those of many users within the community.

Thank you for your time and for continuing to improve this incredible tool.

Best regards.
