I know a similar “Lock Chat” idea has been suggested before, but my main suggestion is specifically that protected chats should be excluded from “Delete all chats.” I have many conversations in ChatGPT, and sometimes I want to clean up my entire chat history while keeping a few important conversations.
It would be very helpful to have a Lock/Protect Chat option for individual conversations. Protected chats could have a small lock or protected icon beside them in the sidebar.
Then, when Delete all chats is selected, ChatGPT would delete only the unprotected conversations and keep the protected ones.
For example, the confirmation message could say:
“Delete all unprotected chats? Your protected chats will remain.”
This would be especially useful for users with a large chat history who want to clean up old conversations without having to manually delete them one by one or risk accidentally deleting important chats.
I think this would make chat management much easier and safer.
