I’d like to provide feedback on the “Delete All Chats” feature in ChatGPT. Currently, selecting this option removes all chats, including those that have been moved to Projects. However, I (and likely many other users) use Projects as a way to organize and safeguard important conversations. It would be highly beneficial if chats inside Projects were excluded from bulk deletions or, at the very least, if there was an option to preserve them.
Why This Matters:
- Projects serve as a workspace for long-term brainstorming, documentation, and research. The expectation is that they function as a more permanent space, not something subject to mass deletion.
- Accidental deletions can be frustrating and irreversible. If a user wants to clear general chat history but retain organized work, they should have a way to do so without needing to back up conversations elsewhere.
- More control over deletions would enhance user confidence. A simple safeguard (such as a separate confirmation or exclusion toggle for Projects) would provide peace of mind.
Would OpenAI consider implementing an option to exclude Project chats from “Delete All” actions? Even a confirmation prompt clarifying that Projects will also be deleted could help prevent accidental loss.
