I’d like to suggest a feature that would make managing a large ChatGPT history much easier:
Favorites/Starred Chats and
Tags, working alongside Projects and Pinned Chats.
The important point is that these features solve different problems:
• Projects = Where does this conversation belong?
• Pinned chats = What am I actively using right now?
• Favorites/Starred chats = Which conversations are important to me and worth keeping easy to access?
• Tags = What other characteristics does this conversation have?
Currently, Pinned Chats are limited to 10. That works well for active conversations, but it doesn’t work as a long-term collection of important chats. Many users can have dozens or hundreds of valuable conversations.
I’d love to see:
Unlimited Favorites/Starred Chats
• A dedicated Favorites view.
• No 10-chat limit.
• A chat can be both Pinned and Favorited.
• Favorites should work independently of Projects.
Custom Tags
• Users could create tags such as Important, Reference, Ideas, To Review, Work, Personal, etc.
• A chat could have multiple tags.
• Tags could work across Projects.
Powerful Filtering
• For example: “Show my favorite chats in my Finance Project.”
• Or: “Show all chats tagged Reference.”
• Ideally, Project, Favorite, and Tag could be combined as filters.
The key distinction is that Projects are containers, while Favorites and Tags are metadata about individual conversations.
For example, a chat can belong to my Finance Project while also being
Favorite and tagged “Reference.” These aren’t competing organizational systems; they answer different questions.
Projects → organize by context
Pins → immediate access
Favorites → long-term importance
Tags → flexible classification
I think this would become especially valuable for people who use ChatGPT as a long-term knowledge and work environment and accumulate hundreds of useful conversations.
Thank you for considering it.
