Dear OpenAI Team, I would like to suggest an optional enhancement for ChatGPT Voice Mode. Currently, Voice Mode uses the animated orb, which is clean and functional. However, I believe many users would appreciate the option to replace it with an illustrated animated avatar representing the AI during conversations. My suggestion is an upper-body avatar with subtle expressions such as blinking, small head movements, and gentle lip-sync while speaking. It should be clearly stylized, not photorealistic, so that it is immediately recognizable as an AI assistant rather than a real person. This feature would be entirely optional. Users who prefer the current animated orb could keep it, while those who enjoy a more visual experience could enable the avatar. Beyond its visual appeal, I believe this could improve the experience for many different types of users, including some older adults who have been introduced to ChatGPT by family members or caregivers.
'This feature is not intended to make ChatGPT seem human. Instead, it aims to provide a more engaging and approachable visual identity for Voice Mode, while maintaining transparency, that users are interacting with an AI.
