Feature Request: Let ChatGPT See Time Between Messages

Hi OpenAI team! I have a feature suggestion for ChatGPT that I think would make troubleshooting and step-by-step conversations feel much more natural.

I think ChatGPT should be able to reliably see the timestamp of each message, or at least know how much time has passed between messages. For example, if ChatGPT tells me to restart my computer, install something, or wait for a process to finish, and I come back five minutes later, it would be helpful if ChatGPT knew that five minutes had passed.

Right now, ChatGPT can access the current time when needed, but it apparently doesn’t always know the exact amount of time between individual messages. Having that awareness could help it understand whether a process had enough time to finish, whether someone was away completing a task, or whether something happened unusually quickly or slowly.

It seems like a relatively small piece of context, but I think it could make conversations feel much more continuous and human, especially during technical support, cooking, workouts, studying, installations, and other real-time tasks.

Thanks for considering it!

Thanks for the suggestion! Letting ChatGPT reliably account for the time between messages is a clear use case. We don’t have a timeline to share for that behavior. We’ll pass this feedback to the relevant product team.
