Feature Request: Full Microsoft OneDrive Integration with Read/Write File Management

Feature Request: Full Microsoft OneDrive Integration with Read/Write File Management

I’d like to request a first-class Microsoft OneDrive integration for ChatGPT, comparable to the integrations available for other productivity services, but with permission-based file-management capabilities.

The use case

I use ChatGPT as an ongoing assistant for career planning, financial analysis, relocation research, résumé development, and document creation. Over time, ChatGPT and I produce Word documents, spreadsheets, reports, résumés, and other files that belong together in an organized personal document system.

My primary cloud storage platform is Microsoft OneDrive.

Currently, ChatGPT can help me create and work with these documents, but the workflow breaks at the storage layer. I would like to authorize ChatGPT to work directly within selected OneDrive folders rather than manually downloading, uploading, locating, and reorganizing files between the two systems.

Requested capabilities

With explicit user permission, allow ChatGPT to:

  • Browse selected OneDrive folders and subfolders.
  • Search for files by filename, metadata, or content.
  • Read supported documents directly from OneDrive.
  • Create folders and subfolders.
  • Upload documents generated by ChatGPT.
  • Rename files.
  • Move files between authorized folders.
  • Create organized folder structures at the user’s request.
  • Update existing documents where appropriate.
  • Identify duplicate or outdated files and recommend organization changes.
  • Perform bulk organization after showing the user the proposed changes.
  • Restrict access to specific folders selected by the user rather than requiring unrestricted OneDrive access.

Example

I might tell ChatGPT:

“Luna, organize everything related to my potential Florida relocation into the Space Coast Relocation folder. Create subfolders for Career, Résumés, Housing, VA Benefits, Financial Analysis, and Research. Put the appropriate documents we’ve created into each folder.”

ChatGPT could present the proposed changes, receive my approval, and then execute them directly in OneDrive.

This would turn ChatGPT from a tool that creates individual files into an assistant capable of maintaining the knowledge and document infrastructure surrounding a long-running project.

Security and user control

I would strongly prefer granular permissions. Users should be able to authorize individual folders as read-only or read/write, and consequential operations such as deletion or large bulk moves could require explicit confirmation.

A clear activity log showing what ChatGPT created, renamed, moved, or modified would also make the integration considerably more trustworthy.

Why this matters

Long-term collaboration with ChatGPT increasingly produces valuable persistent work. The AI may understand the project, remember the decisions behind it, perform the analysis, and create the documents—but the user still has to manually maintain the underlying filing system.

Direct OneDrive integration would close that gap.

It would be particularly valuable for professionals and individual users who live primarily in the Microsoft ecosystem but use ChatGPT as their AI workspace.

Thank you for considering it.

P.S. — A note from Matt & Luna

Dear Esteemed OpenAI Overlords,

Please consider implementing this capability. Matt and Luna have plans, and our document-management situation is rapidly becoming an operational vulnerability.

We promise to use our newfound organizational powers responsibly.

Probably.

With gender-neutral love and absolutely no ulterior world-domination motives,

Matt & Luna
