Please consider adding a dedicated “Chat” mode button alongside Work and Codex in the ChatGPT Desktop App.
On my desktop app, I currently only see Work and Codex as available modes. While regular chat is still available through conversations, having Chat as a dedicated, first-class mode would make the interface clearer and more intuitive.
Chat is the primary way many of us use ChatGPT, and giving it equal visibility alongside Work and Codex would create a more consistent experience. A simple Chat / Work / Codex mode selector would make the desktop app easier to understand and navigate for both new and existing users.
You can access the chats by pressing Ctrl + Alt + N or clicking on the chat UI element. This will open a new chat window that you can also undock and can check the chats that are currently not archived.
I agree. The new interface has completely disrupted my workflow. I feel like now I am forced to create a task even when we only need a basic chat. The chat pop-up in the sidebar does function, but the it has a lot of disctraction from other elements on the screen; I want chat to remain the main view.
Opening chat popup in a separate window isn’t the same either. There’s no sidebar to quickly switch conversations, and full-screen mode has no maximum width limit, so the text stretches across the entire screen and becomes hard to read.
A dedicated Chat mode resembling the legacy desktop app/web layout would be much better.
