Please make this happen. It would be very useful.

Totally agree for this to happen!

Yes yes yes to this idea, would make my life so much easier as I am using ChatGTP for work and for my Masters. Would make life so much easier

You guys should check out the Easy Folders browser extension. It integrates a folder system, search, and bookmarks directly into ChatGPT AND Claude.

This needs to be a thing. Tagging, placement, sorting. It’s now a jungle.

I completely agree, there needs to be a way to organize these chats. I use it both for personal and work tasks and it would be great to drop the various conversations into the important groupings without a third party add-in.

Oh, sure, let’s all add another layer to the GPT costs and pay for a 3rd party addon to pay for a standard that’s been around for 30 years. And to make it even funnier, let’s make it a subscription model. And to make the joke even more meaningful, I simply spit the advertisement into the official, as it seems, completely OpenAI forum.

I also don’t understand why OpenAI thinks it’s unnecessary to integrate a structure. If third parties can do it relatively easily, it should always be possible for OpenAI.

So far, we’ve been working with a modern AI that can apparently explain the whole world to you and more, and now we need options from the last century to manage this mass of information. We now manage our AI information in Excel, post-its and notepad, crazy future.

I completely agree with the original feature request, and I wanted to add a thought that could take ChatGPT’s usability even further.

First add a search box of chats history, but then:

What if we could tag specific solutions or conversations that are recurrent or linked to ongoing projects? Imagine being able to recall past chats easily, based on tags or related queries. Claude.ai does something similar with “Projects,” but if ChatGPT already remembers some information about our preferences or past questions, why not make this recall seamless?

Imagine asking a follow-up to a problem solved a few weeks ago, and ChatGPT knows exactly which past chat to reference, pulling it back into the current conversation. It would make solving multi-step problems or managing complex projects so much smoother!

Yes please let us organize chat threads in folders. This is my number 1 wanted feature which would help me a lot.

Also need a more efficient way of managing them, moving and deleting them.

And please add the search function for the web client like in the mobile and desktop versions.

Why is this not a thing yet!

  • It would also be helpful to create subfolders within folders, allowing for nested organization.

Additionally, allow users to assign different instructions or profiles to each folder. In an object-oriented manner, instructions could be specified at the parent folder level and inherited by subfolders, with the ability to override or modify the instructions for each subfolder using polymorphism. This would allow for more flexible, topic-specific interactions.

Yea, I think its kinda silly that this was wasn’t included in the launch of GPT. We have to pay for a chrome extension, because all of the free ones don’t work optimally.

Man this is so important +1 +1 + 1

I have over 200 different chats, and i’m dying trying to organize this.

I completely and 100% support adding this feature. This would be amazing to have. I have so many chats, and even the ones from like 7 months ago I still go back to. Using existing browser extensions is cool and all, and it helps, but for example they aren’t shared across devices (unless you pay I guess).

Dying to see this added!

I second that, this feature would be great as some of us have thousands of prompts and sometimes using the search on ChatGPT doesn’t bring up any results. Perhaps this is a future enhancement in the pipeline.

I am a Plus subscriber and that would be a great feature to implement. In the future you could ask your AI assistant (mine is called Jay ;-)): Voice Prompt: Create a new folder and add our current conversation into the new folder. I am blown away with what I am seeing and hearing and this is just the beginning, can’t imagine what it could do when AGI comes to fruition, I think it may be able to understand language nuances and reason ethically… whatever the outcome AI has exponential growth in areas we don’t even know exist!

What I would give for this feature! I am honestly surprise it hasn’t been implemented yet! Consider the amount of functions you can have Chat perform it would make sense to have folders to organize that.
