Feature Request: Deep ChatGPT Integration as a True Mobile Assistant

I would love to see ChatGPT become more deeply integrated into mobile operating systems in the future.

My idea is not simply to have another voice assistant. I imagine ChatGPT functioning as a true personal assistant, similar to Siri in terms of system integration, but with ChatGPT’s natural conversation, contextual understanding, and memory.

For example, I would like to be able to say:

“Chat, set an alarm for me.”

“Chat, reply to this message in a friendly way.”

“Chat, remember the machine problem I was working on yesterday?”

“Chat, look at this component and help me identify it.”

The most important part would be context. Instead of interacting with an assistant through isolated commands, I would like to have a continuous relationship with the assistant. It could remember previous conversations when appropriate and help connect information from different situations.

However, privacy and user control would be essential.

The user should always decide exactly what ChatGPT can access and control. For example:

  • Calendar access: optional
  • Messages: only with explicit permission
  • Photos and camera: only when requested
  • Alarms and reminders: allowed if authorized
  • System actions: controlled through clear permissions

The goal should not be for the AI to have unrestricted access to the device. Instead, the user should be able to decide how deeply integrated the assistant can be.

I believe this could make ChatGPT significantly more useful in everyday life.

Personally, I already use ChatGPT for conversations, technical questions, problem-solving, learning, and everyday decisions. I would genuinely prefer having ChatGPT available as my primary assistant directly within my phone instead of having to open an app every time.

I imagine a future where I could simply say:

“Chat, I’m leaving work.”

And ChatGPT could understand the context and respond:

“Got it. Would you like me to calculate the best time for you to sleep based on your schedule tomorrow?”

This combination of natural conversation, memory, contextual understanding, voice interaction, and controlled access to mobile system features would be incredibly powerful.

I know there are major challenges involving privacy, security, operating system permissions, and partnerships with companies like Apple and Google. However, I believe this is a direction worth exploring.

ChatGPT already feels much more natural to interact with than traditional voice assistants. Deep system integration could take that experience to another level.

I would love to see a future where ChatGPT is not just an app that I open when I need something, but an intelligent assistant that can naturally participate in my daily life — always under my control.

Thank you for considering this idea.

If you use a supported Apple device, ChatGPT can already connect with Siri and Writing Tools: https://help.openai.com/en/articles/10269382. We’ll pass on the broader idea of a deeply integrated, permission-controlled phone assistant. No timeline to share.
