Feature Request: Codex CLI Included with ChatGPT Subscription

Currently, ChatGPT subscribers are able to enjoy Codex through their web browser. However, it would be a significant enhancement to include access to the Codex CLI tool directly within the existing monthly subscription. I personally think that Codex is very powerful, but don’t like the fact that I have to wait several minutes, and I can’t function at peak productivity while doing that.

This would mirror what platforms like Claude offer, where Claude Code provides subscribers direct and convenient command-line functionality for executing and experimenting with AI-driven code generation tasks.

I know a lot of my friends who are developers and are switching their monthly AI subscriptions from ChatGPT to Claude specifically for this reason. Adding this functionality would definitely improve the service and would in turn have a larger user base.

I second that. It really doesn’t make much sense to carve it out. It is a shame as the codex-mini-latest seems to be pretty competent too.

Can we get any input from OpenAI employees on this? It seems odd that the only way to access our paid subscriptions to ChatGPT is via the web interface, which severely impacts the usefulness of the subscription for software development tasks compared to other similar offerings by providers such as Anthropic Claude.

I also find this very odd! Why enable it through browser but not cli?

The only reason that I haven’t tried Codex for my projects is this.

I’m using Claude Code and wanted to give Codex a try last night, but noticed that it is charging through API. So I immediately stopped using it.

Cna i use cli using Chatgpt’s go subscription
