Codex is becoming much stronger, especially with image generation, browser workflows, Git review, and project automation. But one major missing piece is a real built-in code editor inside Codex App.
Many users want Codex to feel more like Cursor: file tree, tabs, syntax highlighting, manual code editing, live diffs, and real-time Git changes while the agent works.
Right now Codex is a powerful agent, but Cursor is still better as a live coding workspace. Adding a real editor would make Codex much closer to a complete AI IDE.
Please consider adding a real editor and real-time Git change visibility to Codex App.
You can suggestion Codex enhancements here, but the official place to report them is the OpenAI Codex GitHub Issues tab with the label enhancement
I had ChatGPT search for your suggestion which found many more than I wanted to check for an exact match.
You should search the enhancements, if it matches your situation, consider adding a reaction to increase visibility. If nothing aligns, open a new issue with the label enhancement.
