No it isn’t. I had a 2 hours convo with the Help Center, repeatedly telling them this is not an isolated case that most of the users experience the same and they kept treating as an isolated case. and I got no solution.

This is not acceptable. I edit my comments sometimes tens of times while exploring different solutions. I edit the initial comments many times trying to find the optimal way to ask questions to get the answer I need.
If forced to, I’ll have to make my own editor using the OpenAI API which allows me to re-write the context at will, because this is absolutely sub-optimal and a brilliant example of enshittification.
As of this morning, I no longer have the pencil that appears next to a message to edit it, which is very frustrating. This option is even essential and I’d like to know if it’s just a bug or worse if it’s been permanently removed, which in itself would be ridiculous. Does anyone have the same thing or a solution?
I wanted to share my frustration with the removal of the prompt editing feature. This was an incredibly useful tool, especially for those of us who use ChatGPT for creative writing research, and planning. Being able to tweak a prompt instead of resending a new message helped maintain continuity, improved accuracy, and made the process much smoother.
Now, without this feature, refining responses is clunkier and much harder to manage. Rewriting entire prompts disrupts the flow of conversation and clutters the chat, making it difficult to track information—whether it’s for storytelling, medical or historical research, gardening plans, or even complex decision-making like moving to another country. Without prompt editing, trying to refine responses results in a messy thread of repeated prompts instead of a clean, organized discussion. Add to the fact the chat will often respond/ pull information from the previous prompt/ its response to the prompt after you’ve made changes, which is obviously what we don’t want.
It was one of the best features for improving AI-assisted work, and its removal feels like a major step backward. I really hope it gets brought back quickly.

I completely agree! I just woke up this morning and was so confused. I thought my device was bugged or something. But after seeing this I guess not. The feature was so useful for me and i quite literally use it everyday. Now it’s so hard for me to keep track of important things. Like you said it clutters up everything. I hate it- alot. I hope OpenAI undos the removal of this feature. It meant alot to me when it first was released.

It’s just very frustrating because they’ve already taken away the ability to regenerate responses in custom gbts on web which is what I primarily use. And, editing prompts in the phone app does exactly what the issue with lack of editing on web will do. Sends out a new prompt with slight variation that just confuses the chat and makes it so messy to look through.

If this is not resolved in a timely fashion, the overall site will become worthless no one will pay for pro I would advise anyone who views this complaint to thoroughly look at the consequences that will emerge as a result If this is a simple bug resolve this asap if this is deliberate you are shooting yourselves in the foot and the efficiency of chat gpt will plummet. Information is an important resource I would advise again not to limit how it can be transferred especially with a tool like this .

I agree, if the prompts wrong or it gets something wrong it can’t be edited you then have to retype underneath and hope it gets it right then, it takes up space and for creative writing just doesn’t look right. I hope the editing feature comes back because it’ll just look messy and I doubt many people will like it or understand why it was taken away as there’s no benefits for it. Please bring it back

I’ve been using ChatGBT for a number of things for a couple years now (I think I started using early 2023?), and I just can’t imagine that is an update anyone asked for, it doesn’t make it a more intuitive or functional application. I’ve never made posts or anything here, so I have no idea how it really works, but do the devs ever actually listen to users and fix/ change things they’ve updated for the worse? Idk, but already it’s making it much harder to use GBT for anything I use it for
