I’m a Pro subscriber experiencing repeated data loss in ChatGPT’s “Projects” feature — and I urgently need answers.
Recently, the Projects section reappeared on my iPhone. Since then, I’ve noticed that when I work in a project on my laptop, and the app syncs automatically with my phone, entire sessions vanish — even when I haven’t touched the other device.
To be absolutely clear:
- I am not switching devices
- I am not manually syncing anything
- I am simply logged into the same account on both iPhone and laptop
- And yet, ChatGPT syncs automatically and deletes recent work
- This happens vice versa. Meaning the first time it happened was when I was working mostly on iPhone. I had opened the app on laptop and instantly everything that was in ChatGPT that day completely erased! Only older conversations appeared aka synced. The entire projects section on iPhone vanished! This is when I learned Projects are currently only available on ChatGPT Web and the Windows app.
- Now it’s the other way around, whereas I’ve been working in Projects section via hp laptop all day. ChatGPT froze, I went to look on my iPhone and noticed the projects section has reappeared and deleted everything that was drafted that day from my laptop.
- Then I noticed again, as I’m checking to see how fast it happens. I was chatting with ChatGPT4o about this, opened phone to see if it happens instantly. As I opened phone app, the entire chat disappeared from laptop and did not appear on phone!
I’ve lost full days of project-building, captions, uploads, product setups, etc.
There is no setting to disable sync, and no warning when it triggers. This is not only frustrating — it’s damaging.
