Custom instructions no longer work

Ever since a few days ago, custom instructions started malfunctioning. When I update “Customize ChatGPT” settings, it resets all other fields to default and then it even fails to follow those instructions. For example, when I update the “Anything else that ChatGPT should know about you?” field, the “What traits should ChatGPT have?” resets.
Now it acts like regular ChatGPT and no matter what I try, it cannot save any of my settings.

Yeah, all the information I had under “What traits should ChatGPT have?” and “Anything else ChatGPT should know about you?” are gone, and if I try adding things in there again, they are gone next time I open " Customize ChatGPT".

Same problem. They’re there, but the UI shows them cleared and any edits will really clear them, I assume.

Ran into the same issue. I’ve noticed that sometimes, the data will persist after a page refresh, but then not showing up in the following refreshes (see gif). So I wonder if it’s being saved but is having issues pulling in.

I eventually got it to save a few minutes after creating the gif. Not sure if I did anything different or just got lucky.

The image displays the ChatGPT interface with a prompt asking "What can I help with?" and several options for tasks like creating images and summarizing text. (Captioned by AI)

Exactly the same, but I’ve noticed it today. GPT’s memory works as usual, and also Custom instructions in Projects. But those normal ones are constantly disappearing.

:bookmark: Title: Issue with Fields Overwriting Each Other in ChatGPT Customization

:memo: Summary:
When filling out both fields in the ChatGPT customization form—“What traits should ChatGPT have?” and “Anything else ChatGPT should know about you?”—one field overwrites the other.

:computer: Device Information:
Device: Desktop PC
Operating System: Windows
Browser: Chrome

:bug: Bug Description:

  • If only one field is filled out (either “What traits should ChatGPT have?” or “Anything else ChatGPT should know about you?”), both fields save as expected.
  • If both fields are filled out, one of the fields gets deleted automatically after saving.

:arrows_counterclockwise: Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Navigate to the ChatGPT customization form.
  2. Fill in only the first field (“What traits should ChatGPT have?”) and save.
  • Confirmed it saves correctly.
  1. Fill in only the second field (“Anything else ChatGPT should know about you?”) and save.
  • Confirmed it saves correctly.
  1. Fill in both fields and save.
  2. Check the saved customization.
  • Observe that one field is overwritten or deleted.

:heavy_check_mark: Expected Behavior:
Both fields should save without overwriting or deleting one another.

:x: Observed Behavior:
Filling both fields causes one to be deleted or overwritten after saving.

Hi, Welcome to the community!

I tested it a few days ago here:

Same thing here. I am a psychologist. To give an example, I wrote the directive” Do not quote psychology today”. Needless to say…

It’s pretty much across the board.

ChatGPT is an ongoing BETA Version. If it was open source then maybe BETA is ok but they screwed everyone and Elon by not doing what they set out to do. Now its for Profit as we pay for them to see the bugs. should be the other way around. I am so disappointed. Custom Instructions messed up. You basically have to spend countless hours reprogramming your chats, new chats and so on. Its a Work Make Project for us the user rather than the people making it. YOU CAN DO BETTER CHATGPT.
