For several weeks now, my Custom GPTs don’t load their instructions or personality on the web version of ChatGPT. They appear in the sidebar, but once opened, they act like the default model — completely ignoring their setup.
On the mobile app, everything works fine, so this is clearly a bug on the web side. I’ve already cleared cache, tried incognito, disabled extensions, switched browsers, and even changed networks — nothing fixes it.
It’s honestly very frustrating. This feature is essential, and it’s been broken for weeks with no communication or update. Please escalate this to the technical team. Paying users deserve a fix soon.
I’m very much in the same boat except my custom instructions have been wiped off the map. I’ve spent nearly the last 2 years adjusting and tweaking to exactly how I want. Yesterday an update went out and noticed today that my account GPT was calling me a name that I legally changed 2 years ago.
Sounds like you just have “memory: reference saved chats” enabled or other such feature, or are referring to the new chat “starter” message of ChatGPT that revoltingly prints your account name in a form (not AI).
The AI will even infer “you” if you are pasting OS path names such as Traceback c:/users/my_name, so sanitize what you don’t want in AI lawsuit discoveries or used in marketing to you.
This is the way you should configure and prefer AI:
