Basic idea:
Library, Projects, files and chats should become one unified AI-accessible filesystem instead of separate features

I see you guys added some new features in the “library” section, allowing people to view their uploaded/generated files and stuff with a list and grid view
Very nice improvement!!
But currently it’s almost completely useless as is
There’s an option to create new folders, which is good for navigation, but you can’t add any existing files to those folders
Also, it says “ask questions, get summaries and more with your files” which is good theoretically, but there’s no easy way to attach those files to the existing chat
If I go to add files in the regular chat it just pulls up a few of the most recent files
Which is not very useful
What Should happen’
The library and files system should be one unified Operating System simulator
Even if it’s not an actual OS for security reasons, it should feel like one. Meeting even with a desktop and start menu, but that’s extra
The main main thing is it should have a full file system, with easy ability to select multiple files, move then to new folders, upload stuff to any folder, batch download, both in the library tab AND when you attach a “file” in the chat
Also, I think when chatgpt generates images it automatically names them with semantic names
The search should be able to find the images based on their semantic names
And most importantly, any chatgpt chat should be able to optionally connect to your actual library, to be able to organize it by making me files and folders, finding things, adding labels and categories to pictures or folders etc
Even more, every chat needs to be able to navigate your virtual os and you can tell it “take all of your instructions from this folder”
Or “find some images over here” or something
And especially (maybe only for pro accounts) you can tell it to start a new coding project, and it can make the HTML css and js on a new folder in some nested dircectory, and then you should be and to navigate it easily in the library (and even ability for the chat to generate custom links they you can click on to view. Can be private files or you can optionally share a folder with specific other members or public based on the link, like Google drive)
Then you can click on html js filled to manually edit them out ask so to edit them
(And so too eith markdown field you can edit it like Google docs editor with bold italics and ask ai to write laraglh here it they’re it fix some parts or add chats here as well)
And preview the HTML and js static files on your browser, automacally linking the js and css external files together, as well as optionally having a custom nodejs server system, but that might be harder for security
But basic static html sites should be very very easy and safe to be and to editor and preview directly in the virtual os
And every operation you can personally do, the chatgpt agent itself should be able to do
Including inviting people, sharing, making public links, organizing your files, renaming and deleting, syncing files to GitHub or other services back and forth
And the entire projects system should be directly linked with the library
Just one unified ai operating system, where one folder can have personal files, or files could also be searched by date month year uploaded, maybe long. Metadata to organize per folder, line details view in Windows
And any ai chat should be able to get context from any specific folder, or you can tell it
"hey I was chatting with another agent a few months ago about xyz and I uploaded a bunch of stuff to it
Can you try to find that chat and find the folders those files are stored in, and continue it’s job?"
Also, one more very important feature:
Every file that is either generated by a chat, uploaded from you device to a chat, or selected from the “files” menu, even if it was already uploaded before, should be linked to all of the chats that “touched” it
That way you or other ai agents can retace their steps for generated files like HTML and js files that one agent wrote, and they can look at the history of the old thought process and what other agents who touched the files saw
You probably have it in your backend anyways, but at least part of it should be available to the agents and end users to see like a full history system for files, which chat it was uploaded to, which other chats it was shared with
Then maybe the chats themselves can be serachable with the same virtual os system, so you don’t just have a big list of old chats that you can never get to again
Maybe like in a custom read only folder as if it’s like system files, you can find chats organized in folders by day and by month and by year, and at the last level in the per day “folders” you can find “files” which are just links to the old chats, but if you click on one you can preview the old chat or just open it directly
Most importantly, though, over you have the system path to a group of chats, you can they organize them in more folders like shortcuts and stuff, in addition to their primary “folders” based on month year and day,
And you can tell other ai agnets to select certain other absolute system paths of folders of links to old chats, to use the content of the old chats as if they are text file attachments
And the ability to continue one chat when it’s too long should be very easy, like a button press or something, or a way to “copy” a custom prompt which tells another agent to continue the work of the old one, by supplying the absolute system path for that chat
If every chat has an absolute system path, similar to a file path ok an os, it would be a lot easier to navigate old chats and make better use of them
Imagine telling a new agent:
Continue /Chats/2026/09/14/Awtsmoos-Tunnel and use /Projects/Awtsmoos/Tunnel/ as your working context.
Or even better, the agents can use the existing search in chats feature and you can tell it
“Find all of the chats where I was working on this project, and then make a new folder with shortcuts to all of those chats and use the best of them for a new project context”
Or it could group them even by semantic categories instead of only by folders, line maybe by adding labels or something to each folder, and you can tell it something like
“Find all conversations related to my project of xyz from the last three months, exclude conversations that were just acceptance tests, identify the five most important ones, create shortcuts to all relevant chats, and build a clean project context from the five best.”
Also if multiple agents are working on the same project at the same time they should be able to actually communicate with each other through the project
Like if one agent discovers some bug or changes an important file, the other agents working on related stuff should be able to see that right away instead of all of them basically working blind in separate chats
And there could be like a shared project activity/history where every agent automatically leaves behind what it changed, what it found, what failed, what still needs to be done etc
Then one agent can tell another one “I’m working on this part, you work on that part” and they can hand work back and forth, ask each other questions, avoid editing the same thing at the same time etc
Basically the agents should feel like they’re all working inside the same computer / project together, not like totally separate chats that have no idea what the others are doing
