Copying text from ChatGPT into Word breaks formatting and justification after April update

Since late April 2025, a critical usability regression has emerged when copying text from ChatGPT into Microsoft Word on MacBook Pro. This issue significantly affects users who rely on the chat interface to co-develop long-form written content.

In my workflow, I engage in a multi-step, paragraph-by-paragraph co-creation process with ChatGPT. We iterate multiple times to adjust tone, structure, and clarity until the output reaches the desired level of precision and quality. Previously, I could then copy each paragraph directly from the chat and paste it into my Word document — with no issues.

Now, pasting even simple text results in:

  • Words breaking mid-line or merging unexpectedly
  • Invisible formatting artifacts that distort alignment
  • Justification becoming impossible without extensive manual rework
  • Text behaving as if it were copied from a code block or table cell

This dramatically slows down workflows for advanced users who depend on ChatGPT for collaborative writing, business documentation, or publication-grade outputs.

Request: Please restore the ability to copy raw, clean, unformatted text directly from the chat window. Ideally, add a toggle or setting to disable all hidden styling/formatting elements for users who prefer plain, layout-compatible text.

Thank you for your attention and for supporting the needs of advanced and professional users.
